The role also contributes to budgeting and forecasting, while working closely with Finance, Treasury, Operations, FP&A, and external service providers.
This opportunity suits someone who has worked in a financial reporting or accounting capacity within an investment, asset management, or operating environment. The ideal person is proactive, curious, comfortable in a fast-moving setting, able to balance several priorities and stakeholders, highly detail-driven, and confident owning their work end to end.
Please note that this posting is intended to build a talent pipeline for future hiring needs and does not represent an open current vacancy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support outsourced full-cycle accounting activities, including reviewing journal entries, accruals, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, HST reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assess monthly billings, invoices, and revenue schedules, and add meaningful financial analysis where needed.
- Check contract, agreement, and system setups tied to revenue and cost recovery processes, including help with internal audit-related needs.
- Monitor monthly cash flow forecasts and distributions to institutional investors.
- Own the month-end close timeline and review financial statements, reporting packages, and variance commentary to explain actual-versus-budget results.
- Support year-end audit work by preparing audit schedules and working papers.
- Provide driver-based analysis and commentary on budget-to-actual variances.
- Contribute to FP&A work on the 10-year plan, including review of budget assumptions and recommendations that improve budget quality.
- Work with operational and business teams to prepare annual budgets and periodic reforecasts.
- Challenge budget assumptions across asset classes to improve accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and review monthly management dashboards for senior leadership.
- Document processes that support compliance across funds in line with partnership agreements.
- Track, summarize, and analyze year-over-year asset management fees, including checking that investor fees have been fully charged as part of compliance work.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and efficiency gains.
- Support monthly debt and capital treasury activities, along with other ad hoc reporting tasks.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or another relevant technical field.
- CPA designation and at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Background in operating, investment, or project-based finance environments is an advantage.
- Advanced Excel ability and the capacity to build polished PowerPoint presentations.
- Solid understanding of the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and related financial reporting concepts.
- Strong curiosity and interest in understanding key performance drivers and metrics.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong grasp of accounting principles, ASPE, and GAAP.
- Customer-oriented approach with strong relationship-building skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate across all organizational levels.
