Role overview

This permanent Employee Relations Specialist opportunity is based in Sydney CBD and offers a salary package of up to 160k inclusive of superannuation. The position sits within a major national organisation and suits an experienced ER professional who is comfortable navigating sensitive workplace issues, advising senior leaders, and working in a busy environment where priorities can change quickly.

What the employer is looking for

The role is with a large, unionised workforce and involves close partnership with leaders and People & Culture teams. You will be responsible for guiding employee relations activity in line with legislation, industrial instruments and internal policy, while helping shape fair and practical workplace outcomes.

Key duties

  • Handle end-to-end complex employee relations matters, including performance management, misconduct, grievances, investigations and workplace disputes.
  • Advise on Australian employment law, Enterprise Agreements, Awards and workplace policies.
  • Support change processes such as consultation, restructuring and redeployment.
  • Deal with Fair Work matters, employment disputes, claims and conciliation processes.
  • Coach managers and leaders through difficult employee situations and conversations.
  • Draft investigation findings, employment letters and formal communications.
  • Assist with policy creation, governance improvements and ongoing process enhancement.

Candidate profile

To be successful, you will need substantial experience in employee relations, workplace investigations and complex case handling. Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Awards and Enterprise Agreements is essential, along with a proven ability to manage Fair Work matters and engage effectively with stakeholders. Excellent written communication, sound judgement and the ability to work independently while balancing competing demands are also important.

Preferred background

Experience gained in healthcare, aged care, community services or another regulated and unionised environment will be viewed favourably.
