Job description

About the Company

Vonage is a global leader in cloud communications, helping businesses modernize how they connect and engage. Backed by Ericsson, the company is positioned at the intersection of carrier network capabilities and enterprise demand. Its Network APIs portfolio includes offerings such as Quality on Demand, Silent Authentication, SIM Swap, Identity Insights, Location Services, and related capabilities, and it is expanding across 17+ countries.

The business is at a pivotal stage where customer adoption is increasing, the market is proving the model, and the opportunity to establish leadership in the category is open now.

Role Overview

This position is a senior, highly autonomous in-house strategic engagement role. Rather than a conventional strategy job, it functions more like a Senior Engagement Manager or Associate Partner embedded within Vonage, working directly on some of the most important strategic initiatives in the Network API space.

As Senior Director, Strategic Projects, you will act as a trusted advisor and execution partner to the VP, Business Innovation. You will independently lead complex, cross-functional programs from problem definition through to measurable business impact, using strong judgment, structured thinking, and an ability to stay several steps ahead of evolving needs.

What You Will Do

  • Take full ownership of high-priority strategic initiatives for the Network API business, starting with problem scoping and hypothesis building and continuing through analysis, recommendations, and stakeholder agreement.
  • Set project goals, bring together teams across product, engineering, business development, marketing, and legal, and keep delivery on track.
  • Break down vague and complicated business questions into practical, evidence-based conclusions supported by clear financial logic.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to senior leaders by preparing and delivering executive-ready materials for internal and external audiences, including CSP partners, enterprise clients, and Ericsson leadership.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, including leadership across the Network API and BGCP teams.
  • Represent Vonage in important discussions such as CSP negotiations, partner conversations, and industry groups like CAMARA and GSMA Open Gateway.
  • Build a deep understanding of the competitive environment, market shifts, and new opportunities within the Network API ecosystem.
  • Turn market insight into practical recommendations that influence portfolio direction, go-to-market planning, and allocation of resources and capital.
  • Run scenario analyses and develop business cases to assess strategic choices and investment decisions.
  • Create go-to-market approaches for new and emerging Network API opportunities, covering commercial, business, and operating model design.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across sectors such as Banking & Financial Services, Mobility, Industrials, Healthcare, and other target verticals.
  • Help shape external thought leadership and strategic messaging for different audiences.
  • Develop reusable frameworks, playbooks, and analytical tools that extend the value of your work across engagements.
  • Contribute to the running of the Special Projects function, including prioritization, staffing, and operational improvements.
  • Help build a team culture focused on rigor, speed, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

  • At least 10 years of progressive experience, including a strong background in top-tier strategy or management consulting such as McKinsey, BCG, Bain, or a similar firm, ideally at Senior Engagement Manager, Associate Partner, or Engagement Manager level.
  • A strong record of leading complex and uncertain strategic projects from the initial framing stage through to executive-level recommendations.
  • Experience in telecom, cloud, or enterprise technology, or deep familiarity with that ecosystem; knowledge of Network APIs, CAMARA, or GSMA Open Gateway is a strong advantage.
  • Previous in-house strategy experience in a technology company is helpful.
  • Ability to work independently with very little supervision, identify priorities proactively, mobilize the right people and resources, and move initiatives to completion.
  • Strong strategic and systems thinking, with the ability to connect ideas across the business and identify opportunities others may miss.
  • Credibility with senior executives, along with solid negotiation and decision-facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills, including business case development, market sizing, and scenario planning.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify technical topics such as QoD, 5G network slicing, and CAMARA APIs for executive audiences.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership, including the ability to align teams without direct authority and make sound trade-offs under pressure.
  • A strong focus on outcomes such as revenue growth, market share, partner activation, and achievement of strategic milestones.
