Job description

About the Company

McKesson is a purpose-led Fortune 10 organization that influences nearly every part of healthcare. The company develops insights, products, and services that help make quality care more available and more affordable. Its culture emphasizes health, well-being, growth, and the opportunity to contribute meaningful ideas that improve outcomes for patients, communities, and employees.

Role Overview

The Senior Director, Enterprise Infrastructure Operations is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, performance, stability, and cost efficiency of enterprise infrastructure services across both on-premises and cloud-based environments. This role oversees operational excellence for compute, storage, backup, and cloud-hosted workloads, while directing internal teams and managed service providers to deliver secure, dependable services at scale.

This position owns infrastructure operations end to end, with a focus on resilient service delivery, measurable performance, and continuous improvement in support of business and clinical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will oversee the full operating model for enterprise infrastructure and partner management.

  • Manage daily operations for compute, storage, backup, and cloud infrastructure services.
  • Maintain strong availability, performance, and reliability for infrastructure platforms that support critical business systems.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce standards, procedures, and runbooks for operations.
  • Direct incident, problem, and change management processes to reduce business impact.
  • Define, track, and manage SLAs, SLOs, and KPIs for infrastructure services.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning practices across all platforms.
  • Lead root cause analysis and ensure lasting fixes for recurring issues.
  • Improve operational maturity, automation, and overall service quality over time.
  • Own governance and performance management for managed service providers.
  • Establish operating models, KPI frameworks, and regular governance reviews with service providers.
  • Ensure vendors meet contractual commitments, SLA targets, and service quality standards.
  • Work with sourcing and procurement teams on renewals, supplier performance, and cost reduction.
  • Ensure operations follow cybersecurity requirements, audit expectations, and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead remediation efforts for vulnerabilities, patch compliance, and audit gaps.
  • Partner with security and risk teams to improve resilience and lower exposure.
  • Keep infrastructure operations audit-ready across all relevant domains.
  • Oversee operations for hybrid and multi-cloud workloads.
  • Maintain consistent operational practices across both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Improve cloud performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Support transition-to-operations activities for newly deployed services with cloud and infrastructure engineering teams.
  • Own operational budgets, including consumption-based partner services.
  • Drive savings and optimization across compute, storage, backup, and cloud spend.
  • Provide visibility into cost drivers, forecasts, and allocations.
  • Align capacity planning to business growth and demand.
  • Ensure infrastructure documentation stays accurate and current, including configurations and dependencies.
  • Produce dashboards and executive reports covering performance, risk, and trend data.
  • Deliver insights on capacity, utilization, and service health to support decisions.
  • Build and lead a strong operations organization made up of internal staff and external partners.
  • Clarify responsibilities and accountability between internal teams and MSPs.
  • Develop leadership capability within the team, especially in operational discipline and service management.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required; an advanced degree or relevant professional certifications are preferred.
  • At least 12 years of enterprise infrastructure operations experience, including leadership over large-scale hybrid environments.
  • Strong background in IT financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Broad knowledge of enterprise infrastructure platforms with depth in compute, storage, backup, and cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid and cloud operations, ideally Microsoft Azure, including workload operations, cost management, and performance oversight.
  • Solid command of infrastructure operations disciplines such as monitoring, patching, capacity planning, and incident/problem/change management.
  • Working understanding of legacy platforms such as IBMi (OS/400) / AS/400 to support continuity and risk reduction.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure security, risk, and compliance frameworks such as SOX and SOC 1/2.
  • Proven MSP and vendor management experience, including SLA design, performance oversight, and accountability management.
  • Demonstrated success leading operations teams and external service providers.
  • Track record of improving reliability and operational excellence in complex, enterprise-scale settings.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at both executive and operational levels.
  • Experience working in highly matrixed organizations and aligning infrastructure, security, and application teams.
  • Strong familiarity with ITIL and IT service management practices.
  • Cloud, ITIL, and infrastructure-related certifications are considered an asset; leadership experience is more important than deep technical specialization.

Working Conditions

  • This is a traditional office-based role with a hybrid work arrangement.
  • A large portion of the work involves computer-based activities.
