About GovTech & AGC
GovTech Singapore leads the nation’s efforts in digital transformation for the public sector, leveraging its expertise in Infocomm Technology, Smart Systems, Application Development, Digital Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity. The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), the government's chief legal agency, is investing in advanced data and AI solutions to enhance legal service delivery—including modern legislation drafting systems, centralized data infrastructure, and AI-driven knowledge tools.
Role Overview
As a Senior / Data Engineer, you will shape the digital backbone supporting AGC’s analytics and artificial intelligence goals. Your work will span building and maintaining robust AWS cloud infrastructure, integrating siloed datasets into a centralized warehouse, and preparing data to power AI and natural language processing applications within legal frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain scalable data pipelines and system integrations across AGC’s legal data landscape.
- Consolidate disparate datasets from multiple teams into a well-governed central data warehouse environment.
- Implement and manage cloud resources on AWS to support analytics and business needs, ensuring both security and scalability using Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies like Terraform.
- Structure and prepare data to drive development of AI-powered and LLM-based tools within AGC’s product suite.
- Collaborate with analysts, infrastructure teams, product managers, and subject matter experts to translate business logic into technical solutions.
- Monitor data quality, identify issues, and implement solutions to strengthen reliability.
- Establish standards for data collection, integration, and technical specifications within the organization.
- Assess and transform unstructured legal documentation into tagged and classified structured data for analytics and AI consumption.
- Stay informed about trends and advancements in data science and AI relevant to legal operations.
- Define, document, and propagate data governance best practices, from access control to lineage and reproducibility.
- Empower non-technical colleagues by sharing knowledge and creating a data-literate environment.
Requirements
- 5 to 8 years of experience in data engineering or cloud engineering, particularly in complex or undefined environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering and automation tasks.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda) and designing cloud architectures for data workloads.
- Track record in developing and maintaining data models, integrations, and pipelines within data warehouse platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience working within agile, cross-functional teams.
- Effective communicator, able to clearly present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive and structured in ambiguous situations, driving outcomes without full information.
- Preferred: Experience in Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform), unstructured data processing, and/or regulated sectors like legal or government.
Additional Information
- Employment is via a 2-year fixed-term contract.
- Flexible work arrangements may be available, subject to role requirements.
Perks & Benefits
- Inclusive and diverse work culture supportive of continuous learning and development.
- Comprehensive leave and wellness benefits supporting work-life balance.
- Empowered environment with flexibility and autonomy in work arrangements, where feasible.
