Role overview
The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for monitoring, interpreting, and reporting manufacturing costs, inventory valuation, and budget controls. The role is focused on supporting profitability through accurate cost analysis and reliable financial reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Review and analyze production-related costs, including direct materials, indirect materials, labor, and overhead expenses.
- Keep the bill of materials and routing data accurate and up to date in the ERP platform.
- Carry out periodic cost rollups and update standard costs after approved modifications.
- Build detailed variance analysis reports and explain major cost differences.
- Reconcile inventory values for raw materials, work in progress, and finished products.
- Support month-end and year-end closing tasks related to cost of goods sold.
- Study cost patterns and suggest ways to lower manufacturing expenses.
- Monitor scrap, rework, and non-conformance costs, with proper supporting explanations.
- Contribute to annual budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing cost centers.
- Analyze profitability and margins across products, customers, and regions.
- Assist internal and external auditors with cost-related questions and required records.
- Assess how price movements, currency changes, and utility usage affect product costing.
- Prepare cost inputs and reports that support pricing decisions, quotations, and tenders for local and export business.
- Work closely with warehouse, production, and maintenance teams to ensure cost data is complete and accurate.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, costing procedures, and audit findings.
Candidate profile
This position is suited to professionals with strong manufacturing cost control experience, solid analytical ability, and hands-on ERP-based costing exposure.
Education and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Industrial Management is required. The role calls for 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in the same area.
Tools and competencies
Advanced Excel skills, familiarity with costing tools, and strong working knowledge of ERP systems are important. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX is preferred.
