Role Overview
This position is for a Senior Contracts Engineer within the P&M business at Reliance Industries Limited, based in Dahej, Gujarat. The role centers on contract sourcing, supplier selection, commercial negotiations, order finalization, and ongoing contract administration for critical items and services.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the sourcing of high-priority contracts in line with direction from the Category Manager and Contracts Manager.
- Build demand profiles and define sourcing events for assigned requirements.
- Track technical and commercial evaluation activities, including price review.
- Assist the Contract Engineer in negotiation preparation and in selecting suppliers for major items.
- Review and ensure purchase order creation and release.
- Understand procurement needs for critical services and provide inputs for overall sourcing strategy.
- Align timelines and spend plans for the assigned scope.
- Identify a preliminary set of suppliers and estimate time and spend.
- Prepare and maintain the contracts plan.
- Execute orders and coordinate expediting activities.
- Receive purchase requisitions and lists of contracts nearing expiry.
- Issue RFQs or enquiries to shortlisted vendors.
- Evaluate vendor offers and prepare comparison statements to support supplier selection and commercial optimization.
- Develop internal cost estimates.
- Take part in commercial negotiation discussions.
- Negotiate and close pricing for items within the role’s approval limits.
- Set up agreements and SLAs with selected vendors and issue final purchase orders.
- Drive the escalation process where required.
- Coordinate with inbound logistics and all relevant commercial teams.
- Monitor contract management after award.
- Promote supplier feedback loops for continuous improvement.
- Review contractor feedback and inputs from the expediting team, P&C, and suppliers.
- Handle change order processing.
- Join regular planning meetings.
- Coordinate supplier confirmations and details for change requests.
- Assess and respond to emergency procurement requirements when they arise.
- Maintain working-level relationships with suppliers.
- Engage vendors routinely to communicate business requirements and understand constraints.
- Collect feedback from field execution teams and suppliers, then share reports with PCM and the relevant Contracts Lead.
- Ensure contractor performance meets end-user expectations and recommend improvements to the Contract Manager.
- Operate with strong ethical standards aligned to corporate values.
- Use technology to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
- Leverage SAP effectively to support process efficiency and cost optimization.
- Apply digital procurement tools such as e-auctions and reverse auctions to improve transparency and efficiency.
- Guide the Contract Engineer on critical contracts.
- Experience in construction, operations, or maintenance at manufacturing or exploration sites will be an added advantage.
Education
A B.Tech degree is required. An MBA or similar professional qualification is optional.
