Key Responsibilities

  • Provide actuarial consulting services predominantly to clients in financial services and some public sector engagements.
  • Manage project delivery and advise clients on risk management, performance optimization, and growth strategy development.
  • Partner with a wide range of professionals within the Financial Services practice, including those in strategy, transactions, tax, technology, and risk.
  • Work on diverse projects such as business transformation, capital and risk management, pricing, product innovation, liability valuation, and appointed actuary duties.
  • Design and apply tailored actuarial models and methodologies based on client requirements.
  • Perform risk analyses and offer strategic guidance on risk control and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Mentor junior team members promoting continuous learning and development culture.
  • Establish strategic collaborations with government, health, human services, and social sectors to improve community wellbeing.
  • Analyze and interpret data to provide insights that inform decision-making.
  • Keep updated with industry changes, regulations, and contribute to business thought leadership initiatives.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related disciplines.
  • Professional actuarial qualification completed or in progress (e.g., FIAA) along with 3 to 5 years’ practical experience in actuarial roles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative abilities with proficiency in actuarial software and programming languages such as SAS, R, and Python; experience with coding and AI/GenAI is highly valued.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build client relationships and convey complex information in clear terms.
  • Comprehensive knowledge across general insurance, private health insurance, life insurance, superannuation, and wealth management sectors.
  • Experience or familiarity with product development, pricing, capital and risk management, asset/liability valuation, IFRS 17, Prophet modelling, embedded value reporting, unit pricing, and retirement income strategies is advantageous.
  • Ability to lead projects, seek business opportunities, and mentor junior staff while demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with legislation, market trends, and regulatory changes.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, based in Auckland or Wellington offices. There are two openings available: one Senior Consultant and one Manager.
