Role Overview
The Senior Conservator will be responsible for directing artifact conservation and restoration efforts, along with preventive care programs, by applying approved scientific methods, eco-conscious materials, and globally recognized practices. The position also involves leading assessments, research, project delivery, policy support, risk control, and cross-functional coordination to safeguard cultural and historical assets while maintaining strong operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee conservation, restoration, and preventive treatment work for artifacts and heritage items.
- Apply scientifically validated methods and appropriate materials to protect the authenticity and long-term condition of cultural assets.
- Conduct assessments, technical reviews, and research to determine conservation needs and treatment approaches.
- Support the development and implementation of conservation policies, standards, and procedures.
- Perform scientific analysis and laboratory-based testing of artifacts to guide preservation decisions.
- Manage risks related to preservation work and ensure alignment with compliance requirements and professional standards.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver conservation projects effectively.
- Contribute to operational excellence through structured planning, documentation, and quality-focused execution.
Candidate Profile
- At least 7 years of relevant professional experience is required.
- Strong hands-on exposure to European conservation standards, methods, and institutional practices is essential.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Conservation and Restoration, Engineering, Historical Monuments, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Solid knowledge of artifact conservation, restoration, and preventive conservation techniques is necessary.
- Experience with scientific evaluation and laboratory testing of artifacts is mandatory.
