Role overview
The Senior Commercial Finance Analyst supports the Commercial Finance function by delivering accurate, timely and actionable financial analysis. The position works closely with business partners to review financial results, identify the main drivers behind performance, assist forecasting, and provide insights that help improve profitability and support growth decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Review financial performance and turn the findings into practical input for commercial decisions and business planning.
- Track core financial metrics such as staff costs, operating expenses and margin trends, and explain differences between actual outcomes and budget or forecast.
- Surface business risks, opportunities and emerging trends, then provide clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Work with business teams to build forecasts, strengthen financial visibility and improve data capture and reporting processes.
- Contribute to month-end close tasks, including accrual preparation, profit-and-loss review and variance analysis.
- Support workforce planning by analysing financial implications for short-, medium- and long-term staffing needs.
- Prepare one-off financial reports, analysis and insight packs to meet changing business requirements.
What the role calls for
- Solid background in commercial finance, FP&A or a comparable finance position.
- Ability to interpret financial information, spot patterns and convert findings into useful business recommendations.
- Good command of budgeting, forecasting, profit-and-loss analysis and variance reporting.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- High attention to detail and the ability to handle several priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfort using finance systems and Microsoft Excel; exposure to reporting or analytics tools is beneficial.
