Overview
Freshening Industries Pte Ltd, a premier manufacturer in Asia specializing in quality wet wipes and hygiene products, is seeking a Senior Chemist with expertise in cosmetic formulation. Located in Singapore, this role involves onsite engagement within our manufacturing sector. Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative formulations and refine existing products for both domestic and international markets.
- Serve as the company’s Regulatory Officer, ensuring all products comply with the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive (ACD) and managing product notifications with Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
- Generate technical documents including product data sheets (PDS), certificates of analysis (COA), and safety data sheets (SDS), while offering technical assistance to Sales and Marketing teams.
- Validate new formulations or significant changes to existing ones and resolve any quality or microbial issues encountered.
- Lead initiatives to troubleshoot and optimize formulations, enhancing product efficacy, stability, and cost efficiency.
- Provide mentorship to Quality Control personnel on laboratory best practices, experimental setup, and documentation standards.
- Assess and recommend novel raw materials, ingredients, and emerging technologies to support innovation.
- Collaborate on cross-departmental project teams from product concept stages through to commercialization.
- Stay informed of industry trends and develop strategies to improve product development and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and coordinate product testing such as Preservative Challenge, Stability, Efficacy, Cytotoxicity, Antimicrobial, Skin Irritation, and Antiviral tests, working with certified labs locally and abroad.
- Support analytical evaluation of raw materials and customer or affiliate samples.
- Develop, audit, and update Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures and systems as required.
- Advise departments on QA/QC matters and support chemical and microbial assessments of materials and products.
- Investigate internal and external complaints, preparing Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) as needed.
- Conduct supplier audits based on internal standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Represent R&D/QA in certification and compliance activities including ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ISO 22301, GMP, and EU MDR standards.
- Manage audit preparations, document reviews, participate in audits, handle audit findings, and foster continuous improvement.
- Act as company liaison in professional organizations such as the Society of Cosmetic Scientists of Singapore (SCSS).
- Perform additional duties as designated by the company.
Qualifications and Skills
- A degree in chemistry, cosmetic science, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field with a strong medical industry background.
- At least 5 years’ experience in product formulation and laboratory testing, preferably involving wet wipes, disinfectants, or consumer chemical products.
- Practical expertise in conducting internal, supplier, and certification audits.
- Proficiency in formulation development, stability testing, and microbial evaluations.
- Exceptional skills in documentation, problem resolution, and cross-team communication.
- Capability to mentor junior staff, lead projects, and promote continuous enhancements.
