Job description
Position Overview
The Senior Buyer role focuses on developing and implementing strategies to achieve or surpass financial objectives while supporting cross-functional teams in buying, planning, production, and distribution. This position also includes mentoring direct reports and serves as a developmental role for becoming a Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM), with a reduced scope in volume or complexity.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze market trends, historical sales data, and channel feedback to recommend seasonal strategies at the department or classification level.
- Collaborate with planning teams to align financial targets for departments, classes, or styles and communicate merchandising strategies accordingly.
- Participate in creating initial floor plans and work with visual and design teams on product placement tailored by delivery and store groups.
- Refine product assortments post-presentation to ensure alignment with product strategies and channel demands.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to review product assortments and propose key ideas, promotional strategies, and initiatives to meet financial goals.
- Analyze sales performance, marketplace data, and business opportunities to ensure the financial success of assigned areas through meeting sales, gross margin, GMROI, and inventory turn targets.
- Approve sales forecasts with planners and verify receipt reconciliations for accuracy.
- Manage open-to-buy budgets by reviewing sales and inventory against goals, adjusting orders, deliveries, pricing, or markdown strategies as needed.
- Recommend modifications to future product assortments and strategies, collaborating with design and management for approval.
- Maintain expert-level customer knowledge via store visits and feedback from customers and store associates to evaluate product execution and relevancy.
- Engage in frequent communication with merchandising, field teams, and marketing to align sales strategies, marketing efforts, and seasonal planning.
- Lead and contribute to weekly cross-functional meetings to share business updates and address current issues.
- Foster development and performance management of direct reports through regular meetings, goal evaluation, and maintaining open dialogue to support growth and retention.
- Manage cross-functional team relationships by guiding objectives, strategy, and vision to align efforts toward shared goals.
- Act as a departmental leader and role model within the merchandising organization, representing the department when needed.
- Contribute to special projects within the division, brand, or company as required.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant professional experience in buying or merchandising.

- Base salary is $70,304 annually, determined based on market data, internal equity, relevant background, and experience.
