Senior Buyer

About the Role

Lotus Africa invites applications for the position of Senior Buyer based at the Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga, Malawi. The incumbent will be responsible for sourcing and procuring goods and services critical to the mining operations, maintaining supplier partnerships, and ensuring procurement processes are carried out efficiently to meet operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee complete procurement cycles for goods and services aligned with corporate policies and operational demands.
• Lead processes for request for quotations (RFQ), tenders, evaluation of suppliers, commercial analysis, and negotiation of contracts.
• Cultivate and sustain strong supplier relationships to secure dependable supply chains, cost-effectiveness, and high service standards.
• Source alternative suppliers and drive initiatives for cost reduction and value enhancement.
• Prioritize urgent purchase orders and manage supply chain challenges to avoid disruptions in operations.
• Track supplier and contract performances, addressing any deviations or non-compliance promptly.
• Maintain precise procurement documentation, financial analyses of expenditures, and reporting.
• Offer procurement advisory and support services to internal departments as required.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, legal regulations, and safety, health, environmental, risk, and quality (SHERQ) standards.
• Participate actively in continuous improvement projects within the procurement and supply chain domain.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a Degree or Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management or a cognate field.
• At least five years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain roles, with preference for candidates from mining, industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry sectors.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing suppliers, strategizing sourcing activities, and conducting commercial negotiations.
• In-depth knowledge of procurement workflows, contract management, and inventory control fundamentals.
• Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
• Strong analytical skills coupled with negotiation, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency in stakeholder engagement.
• Capability to perform effectively under pressure and juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced operational setting.
