Job description

About the Company

Earnest helps ambitious professionals make more confident financial choices and create the future they want. The company focuses on giving borrowers better lending options and a clearer route to taking control of debt. If that mission resonates with you, this role may be a strong fit.

Role Overview

The Senior Business Operations Manager will work closely with the VP, Head of Lending and serve as a key connector across the lending organization. This position blends strategy, analytics, planning, and execution, with exposure to a path toward broader general management responsibilities within Earnest’s lending business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align priorities and execution across lending teams by acting as the main link between business leadership and Product, Marketing, Risk, Finance, and Data Analytics.
  • Perform high-impact analytical work and sophisticated financial modeling to uncover business drivers, evaluate scenarios, and support executive decisions.
  • Maintain the quality and structure of recurring leadership cadences, including weekly and monthly business reviews and board presentation materials.
  • Run annual corporate and strategic planning efforts by coordinating timelines, inputs, and deliverables across functions.
  • Serve as an adaptable internal advisor who can move between portfolio management, deep-dive analysis, and operational tracking as business needs evolve.
  • Contribute to building a long-term foundation for a general management career path within the lending business.

What We’re Looking For

  • An MBA graduate, recently completed, or someone with equivalent experience in strategic finance, investment banking, corporate strategy, or financial services.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical ability, including the capacity to independently build scenarios and turn complex data into practical recommendations.
  • A highly accountable self-starter who performs well without rigid structure and is comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated success influencing cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders without formal authority.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in fintech, consumer lending, or capital markets, along with an understanding of asset-class mechanics or lending operations.
  • Exposure to corporate development, strategic finance, or asset liability management teams.
  • Familiarity with structured weekly and monthly business review processes, plus hands-on experience with business unit P&L management or forecasting.

Work Location

This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The role offers remote flexibility, but candidates are expected to work from the Oakland office 2–3 days per week for in-person collaboration with the VP, Head of Lending.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is USD 153,000 to 192,000. Final compensation depends on job-related experience and qualifications, internal pay considerations, candidate location, and budget. The role is also eligible for an annual performance bonus and equity.

Benefits and Perks

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with savings plans
  • Mac computers and a work-from-home stipend for home office setup
  • Monthly reimbursement for internet and phone expenses
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Strong tuition reimbursement support
  • USD 1,000 travel perk every Earnie-versary, usable anywhere in the world
  • Competitive annual paid time off
  • Competitive parental leave
