About Cubic Transportation Systems
Cubic is a global technology company focused on transportation and defense solutions. Its work is centered on improving everyday travel, strengthening mission success, and supporting public safety through innovation and customer service. The company operates through key businesses including Cubic Transportation Systems and Cubic Defense.
Role Overview
This Senior Business Analyst position plays a central role in digital design and delivery. You will connect internal teams such as Program Management, Engineering, Verification & Validation, Services, and Training with external stakeholders including NZTA, councils, and third-party vendors. The work spans multiple websites and customer mobile applications.
In this role, you will work with Cubic Digital teams to shape requirements, identify practical solutions within product constraints, and support defect triage and prioritisation using methods such as RICE and MoSCoW. You will also analyse and report business data to support better decisions, strengthen performance, and improve end-to-end business processes and information flow.
The position involves coordinating delivery across multiple locations, including teams based remotely and within the country, to support a national ticketing solution and local council-led projects. The role operates with limited supervision and requires strong judgement, independence, and decision-making ability.
Responsibilities
- Work with digital and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet contractual expectations for cost, timelines, and performance.
- Support requirements discovery and solution shaping while keeping stakeholder needs, technical limits, and change control in view.
- Set clear scope boundaries, document requirements, and help manage client expectations throughout delivery.
- Coach and guide project teams so work stays aligned with schedules and delivery goals.
- Build and maintain reliable digital delivery practices, including traceability, feedback cycles, and status reporting.
- Coordinate requirements across multiple projects while following contract terms, policies, and internal procedures.
- Gather, document, analyse, trace, validate, and manage business requirements, including gap analysis and formal sign-off.
- Bring stakeholders together to align on business processes and requirement outcomes.
- Ensure solutions satisfy both business and technical needs and support a strong user experience.
- Assess and recommend options based on business value, technical fit, and innovation potential.
- Improve processes through workshops, requirement refinement, and corrective actions that reduce repeat issues.
- Plan and track scope delivery against deadlines while managing related risks, including digital asset risks.
- Prepare performance reports against SLAs and KPIs, with analysis and actionable insights.
- Create and keep updated system documentation such as specifications, process documents, work instructions, and training materials.
- Support bids and proposals for new business or expanded opportunities.
- Carry out additional duties as needed.
Requirements
- A university degree, or an equivalent qualification, in Project Management, Information Systems and Technology Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of business analysis experience on complex technology programs involving stakeholders in multiple locations.
- Strong capability in data management.
- Hands-on experience working with AI-based solutions.
- Experience contributing across several deliverables, such as digital and infrastructure workstreams.
- Proven ability to work with varied stakeholders and balance competing priorities.
- Track record of managing and delivering several projects at the same time.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of both Agile and traditional delivery approaches.
- Experience in transportation, ticketing, or a comparable industry is strongly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience in process design, reporting, and SLA/KPI management.
- Understanding of data migration, database reporting, and reporting tools.
- Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and requirements/design management tools.
- Advanced ability with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly.
- Ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
