Role Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Business Analyst specializing in Trade Surveillance and Market Abuse Surveillance within the Banking and Financial Services domain. This role, based in Chennai or Bangalore, requires 6 to 12 years of relevant experience and involves collaboration with Risk, Compliance, Technology, Business, and Regulatory teams. The analyst will be responsible for gathering requirements, documenting surveillance scenarios, supporting investigation processes, analyzing trade data, and facilitating the implementation of enterprise surveillance solutions.

Key Responsibilities and Functional Scope

  • Define and document requirements in partnership with stakeholders across risk, compliance, technology, business, and regulatory functions.
  • Develop and maintain detailed trade surveillance scenarios to detect and prevent market abuse.
  • Support and guide investigations into suspicious trading activities and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Analyze trade data and provide insights to refine surveillance controls and alert systems.
  • Work on end-to-end trade surveillance workflows, including alert generation and exception handling.

Surveillance Coverage Areas

  • Identify and monitor market manipulation activities such as spoofing, layering, wash trades, pump and dump practices, marking the close, cross-product manipulation, momentum ignition, and quote stuffing.
  • Conduct insider trading surveillance related to MNPI (Material Non-Public Information), employee and client transactions, earnings announcements, mergers and acquisitions, corporate actions, and regulatory disclosures.
  • Perform best execution checks using execution quality metrics, reviewing venue performance, transaction costs, and adverse execution indicators.
  • Detect front-running activities by correlating client orders with trader, employee, and proprietary trading actions.
  • Execute cross-market and cross-asset surveillance covering equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, commodities, and derivatives.

Required Expertise and Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Banking and Capital Markets with a minimum of 6 years as a Business Analyst.
  • Strong specialization in trade surveillance, market abuse controls, regulatory compliance, and derivatives trading on electronic platforms.
  • Familiarity with Order Management Systems (OMS) and Execution Management Systems (EMS).
