Role overview
This contract position is for a Senior Business Analyst supporting healthcare-related initiatives for the State of Alabama. The role is based onsite in the Montgomery, Alabama area and involves working across business, technical, and vendor teams to shape process improvements and requirement solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Guide business analysis work for state healthcare projects, with emphasis on complex program environments.
- Facilitate business process mapping, modeling, and ongoing process management efforts.
- Review current operations and recommend improvements, especially in MMIS, Medicare, Medicaid, or large healthcare payer settings.
- Collect, organize, and refine business needs, then convert them into clear functional specifications.
- Support documentation, project tracking, and coordination using tools such as Visio, MS Project, Office 365, Webex, and Teams.
- Work closely with multiple vendors and help manage a multi-contractor project structure.
- Produce reports, slide decks, technical documents, and workflow materials.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to keep work aligned across teams.
- Help ensure outputs satisfy business goals and compliance expectations.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders through strong written and verbal interaction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience analyzing and improving processes in healthcare-related environments.
- Working knowledge of MMIS, Medicare, Medicaid, or major payer operations is highly relevant.
- Strong capability in requirement gathering, documentation, and functional specification writing.
- Hands-on proficiency with Visio, MS Project, Office 365, and collaboration tools such as Webex or Teams.
- Ability to coordinate across vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Preferred background includes leading centralized or matrixed teams, technical writing, and advanced use of Microsoft Office tools including SharePoint.
