Role Overview

The Senior Associate for Tax Compliance will support tax compliance and advisory services focused on internal policies, procedures, systems, and controls. This role requires proactive monitoring of changes in banking tax regulations both locally and internationally. Additionally, the position involves coordinating tax compliance efforts for QNB's overseas branches and subsidiaries, ensuring all regulatory obligations and reporting deadlines are met with the requisite quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support in delivering tax compliance advisory services related to business policies, procedures, and legal tax matters.
  • Assist in managing tax compliance and reporting programs such as FATCA, CRS, UK FATCA, UK CDOT, and OECD standards.
  • Track tax-related client documents, monitor expiration dates, manage renewals, and coordinate with Client Service teams to validate records.
  • Help manage tax compliance-related problem resolution and helpdesk support, implementing KPIs and best practices.
  • Promote efficiencies and cost-effectiveness within assigned duties to optimize benefits for the bank while operating within delegated authority limits.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to resolve tax compliance queries and respond to correspondent bank inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Corporate, Treasury, and Syndication teams to fulfill tax requirements prior to new deal initiations.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to enhance staff understanding of tax compliance and support strategic planning efforts.
  • Maximize and recommend improvements for the bank's tax reporting IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with Group policies and provide feedback on procedures relative to tax compliance and international best practices.
  • Report compliance findings and non-compliance risks to senior management and assist with reporting to the Group Board Audit & Compliance Committee.
  • Implement systems to monitor tax issues and non-compliance events.
  • Recommend updates to training programs to align with new laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Stay informed on tax regulatory and instruction changes affecting financial services operations locally and internationally.
  • Coordinate with IT and AML/CTF teams to enhance tax reporting capabilities and customer identification processes.
  • Keep abreast of relevant laws, policies, and best practices affecting the Group’s tax compliance locally and abroad.
  • Contribute to the department’s training strategies and facilitate professional development for compliance personnel.
  • Comply fully with all legal, regulatory and internal compliance requirements including AML/CTF, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblowing, conflicts of interest, and insider dealing policies.
  • Adhere to the Three Lines of Defence framework to manage risks.
  • Support operational risk management activities such as RCSA, KRI, and incident reporting.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold QNB's reputation and leadership position.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by management and maintain unrestricted access to necessary information and assets.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree accompanied by relevant professional qualifications such as CAMS, CPA, CCO, or CIA.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a major banking institution or consulting firm.
  • Strong expertise in banking policies, regulatory requirements, and international tax compliance programs.
  • Accounting or similar professional qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory for all roles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic; additional languages such as French are a plus.
  • Capability to evaluate the impact of regulatory changes on the bank’s compliance risk profile.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
  • High personal integrity and self-discipline.
