Job description

Role overview

Konami Gaming is hiring a Senior Art Designer for an onsite role in Las Vegas, Nevada. The position centers on researching, creating, and refining illustration and animation work for casino slot games, including themes, characters, user interfaces, symbols, and effects. The designer chooses the most appropriate style, technique, and medium to achieve the intended visual impact while meeting production constraints.

This role partners closely with Game Design and Software Engineering teams and receives direction from Art Design Management. In addition to independent execution, the position includes mentoring and training other art team members and requiring specialist-level expertise in at least one artistic discipline.

Key work

  • Develop or improve drawings, illustrations, game themes, characters, symbols, and visual effects.
  • Create computer-based animation for UI elements, symbols, effects, and characters.
  • Produce strong 2D and/or 3D interface screens and informational graphics, plus high-resolution artwork for print use.
  • Work with game designers and managers to finalize assets, share work at review milestones, and adjust quickly based on feedback.
  • Prepare art assets for in-game implementation while staying within production limits and coordinating with artists, tech artists, and engineers.
  • Handle complex game-art setup, adapt to new tools and platforms, and modify artwork under aggressive timelines.
  • Follow and help improve the company’s art direction and production workflow.
  • Contribute to process improvements and manage large projects within short turnaround windows.
  • Align visual development with functional specifications, graphic proposals, concept art, and storyboards.
  • Create visuals that reinforce game rules and flow, and choose tools and methods that maximize efficiency and control cost.
  • Study Konami and competitor titles, player response, and field performance to identify trends and judge which art approaches best appeal to players.
  • Lead or participate in field research, including casino visits, online research, and discussions with the team.
  • Attend G2E and other trade shows or conferences when needed.
  • Coach, mentor, and train other designers in fine art, technique, and industry knowledge.
  • Escalate discrepancies or issues that need resolution and perform additional related duties as assigned.

Experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Art, Animation, or a similar area, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Master’s degree is preferred, and art-related certifications or awards are an advantage.
  • 8–11 years of art development experience in the slot gaming industry working with designers and developers; 5–7 years is acceptable if supported by a Master’s degree.
  • Strong life drawing ability and hands-on experience.
  • Thorough understanding of slot game art standards, including theme, color, and gaming symbols.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills across all business levels.
  • Ability to obtain and keep required gaming licenses.
  • Deep technical knowledge of game development and the art production pipeline.
  • Photoshop proficiency is required; After Effects, Illustrator, Animate, Maya, and Unity are preferred.
  • Understanding of media production and communication/distribution methods.

Additional requirements

The job includes monthly field research trips to casinos, and travel may also be required for trade shows or other business needs. The role requires tolerance for environments with changing noise, temperature, lighting, vibration, crowd levels, air quality, and secondhand smoke. Travel is minimal, estimated at 0–10% or as business requires, and a valid driver’s license is required.

Work environment

This is a full-time onsite position with 40+ hours per week. Flexibility for overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required. The work setting may involve limited space, long periods at a computer, and repetitive use of keyboard, mouse, and telephone. The role requires sustained focus in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining accuracy, meeting deadlines, protecting confidentiality, and communicating professionally with coworkers, management, clients, and outside organizations. The position is primarily based in a smoke-free office with low to moderate noise and a cubicle or office near other team members.
