Senior AI Product Builder

Overview

SAP is looking for a senior professional to help define, build, and evolve an AI prototyping environment that enables safe, scalable experimentation with enterprise data and modern AI tooling. This role sits within SAP’s Enterprise AI CoE and combines product thinking, technical delivery, and cross-functional collaboration.

What you will do

You will shape the operating model and delivery foundation for an AI Prototyping Lab that supports Agentic AI Engineers, Citizen AI Developers, and Business AI Innovators. The goal is to create an environment where teams can explore AI tools on curated data with the right controls in place.

• Take ownership of the platform backlog, help define priorities, and co-develop the roadmap with business stakeholders, engineering, and the Product Manager.
• Work as a technical lead who can move between product discovery and implementation, including prototyping, validating ideas, and using AI-native development tools to speed up learning.
• Run lightweight experiments, proof-of-concepts, and iterative tests to evaluate workflows and technical patterns before they are scaled into production capabilities.
• Balance business priorities, technical constraints, user experience, and market direction when designing low-code/no-code and AI-assisted development experiences.
• Assess new AI tools, developer workflows, and ecosystem developments, then convert useful opportunities into practical platform features.
• Make sure delivery stays aligned with SAP processes, enterprise architecture standards, and responsible AI expectations.
• Contribute hands-on where needed with prototyping, API integration, workflow configuration, prompt design, and light implementation to remove blockers and move delivery forward.

Collaboration and leadership

• Work across SAP to collect product feedback, improve transparency, and uncover high-value opportunities for AI-enabled workflows and prototyping tools.
• Partner with engineering, solution architecture, design, and security teams to turn product needs into scalable technical solutions and a better developer experience.
• Help drive squad objectives alongside technical and business partners.
• Serve as the link between product strategy and delivery detail, making practical trade-offs when needed.
• Apply guidance from architects, security, and other specialists in a way that is usable for the team.
• Support and coach colleagues on product thinking, experimentation, and effective use of modern AI development tools.

Continuous improvement

• Continuously deepen your own expertise and share knowledge with the squad, especially in emerging AI tools, prototyping approaches, and product discovery methods.
• Participate in regular feedback cycles to improve the product and team processes.
• Increase platform adoption and value by reducing friction, strengthening onboarding and self-service, and tracking user outcomes.
• Improve internal ways of working through automation, experimentation, and AI-assisted development practices that raise speed, quality, and learning.
• Create feedback loops from prototypes, pilots, and early users to refine product direction and prioritisation.

Accountability

• Own the delivery outcomes for assigned projects or areas of responsibility.
• Help shape long-term concepts for the platform and its future evolution.
• May take on informal leadership responsibilities across a squad or workstream.
• Be recognized internally as a senior contributor on complex technical and business topics.
• Handle large and complex work using creativity, specialist knowledge, and strong technical judgment to produce high-quality solutions.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate has a strong blend of technical product management, platform thinking, and AI/ML familiarity. Experience with developer experience, enterprise governance, and platform adoption metrics is important, along with the ability to communicate effectively across business and technical teams.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• At least 8 years of overall experience, with the most recent 5 years in technical engineering.
• Optional certifications in SAP, AWS, GCP, or Azure are preferred.
• Optional Product Owner and Project Management certifications are also preferred.
• Proven background in product leadership, platform engineering, solution engineering, or technical product management for AI/ML platforms, developer tools, or internal platforms.
• Strong knowledge of low-code/no-code platform design and enterprise AI user personas, including what each user group needs to work effectively.
• Familiarity with AI/ML tooling such as LLM APIs, prompt playgrounds, RAG pipelines, and agent frameworks.
• Experience in developer experience or platform product management, especially onboarding, self-service journeys, and starter kits.
• Understanding of governance and guardrails, including usage rules, model access controls, cost management, and responsible AI compliance.
• Ability to define and measure adoption metrics such as time-to-first-prototype, active usage, use case conversion, and user satisfaction.
• Knowledge of API marketplace or service catalog concepts for making AI capabilities discoverable and reusable.
• Familiarity with SAP BTP, AI Core, and related SAP technologies.
• Working knowledge of LLM orchestration, prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic frameworks to make sound prioritisation decisions.
• Exposure to SAP BTP components such as AI Core, AI Launchpad, and Cloud Foundry, plus platform concepts like APIs, microservices, and multi-tenancy.
• Understanding of security, access control, and responsible AI governance for multi-user environments.
• Experience working with agile methods and backlog tools such as Jira.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to turn business needs into technical requirements.
• Strong ownership, accountability, and strategic thinking.
