Role Overview
As a Senior 3D Gameplay Artist specializing in Animation and VFX, you will own the visual and motion aspects that shape the feel of gameplay mechanics from early prototypes through to final assets. Working closely with art directors, game designers, and engineers on "All in Hole," you'll craft animations and effects that make interactive elements intuitive and fun even before player interaction.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of game feel for gameplay mechanics, starting from greybox and UX blockouts to final animations and VFX sign-off.
- Create hand-keyed animations for gameplay objects including idle states, activations, interactions, and transitions, emphasizing timing, weight, and motion principles.
- Design and implement VFX and shaders that clearly communicate impacts, feedback, and state changes without overwhelming the object’s readability.
- Interpret concepts into 3D assets faithfully, enhancing charm and challenging designs early if gameplay requires adjustments.
- Iterate directly within Unity using prefabs, colliders, animator state machines, and possess enough technical proficiency to prototype ideas independently.
Requirements
- At least 5 years experience crafting 3D core gameplay animations for mobile games with strong foundational animation skills focused on non-character objects.
- Proficiency in creating impactful particle effects and VFX that support gameplay clarity.
- A keen gameplay design understanding and the ability to collaborate with designers on mechanic fun and function.
- Advanced working knowledge of Unity, including blockouts, prefab systems, animator state machines, and ability to independently solve technical challenges.
- Shader programming and debugging capabilities beyond simply applying existing shaders.
- Strong fidelity to original concepts while enhancing them through the 3D pipeline.
- Excellent visual communication skills such as storyboarding and prototyping to align stakeholder expectations.
- Self-driven with initiative and quality ownership, delivering improvements proactively without need for direct oversight.
Bonus
- Ability to originate and develop concepts independently.
- Experience with physics-based gameplay systems.
- Mentorship or review experience supporting other artists' growth.
