Seams Person / Stores Service Attendant

Role overview

Ventia supports the Australian Defence Force through the Defence National Clothing Store Services contract and is seeking a careful, customer-focused Seams Person / Stores Service Attendant to join the team at RAAF Base Amberley in Ironbark, Queensland.

This position brings together clothing alteration and fitting work with store operations, warehousing support, and direct service to Defence personnel. In this role, you will help ensure customers are properly fitted, professionally presented, and supplied with the clothing and personal items required for their duties.

Seams person duties

• Take measurements and fit Defence customers for clothing items.
• Sew on rank, badges, insignia, and medals according to Defence requirements.
• Carry out garment adjustments such as hemming, repairs, ironing, and other alteration work.
• Keep accurate records for fittings, alterations, and orders.
• Safely handle, protect, and manage medals and issued items.

Stores and customer service duties

• Receive, inspect, and process incoming stock deliveries.
• Prepare and pack store items for dispatch.
• Assist with issuing Defence clothing and kit.
• Check and accept returned items.
• Support inventory control and store administration tasks.
• Use Defence systems and computer terminals for transactions and record management.
• Carry out manual handling and stock movement tasks.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and secure work environment.
• Provide high-quality customer service to Defence personnel.

• Pay rate of $28.86 per hour plus superannuation.
• Regular schedule from Monday to Thursday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.

What you will bring

• Background in sewing, tailoring, garment alterations, or a similar trade is highly regarded.
• Experience in customer service, retail, warehousing, or stores work.
• Strong eye for detail and commitment to quality work.
• Clear communication and strong service skills.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Good organisation and time management ability.
• Basic computer skills and confidence with data entry.
• Current driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Forklift licence is desirable.
• Experience with MILIS or DPN systems is an advantage.
• Must be able to satisfy Defence security requirements.

Eligibility and clearance

Australian citizenship is required in order to obtain and keep the necessary Defence security clearance.
