Position Overview
Zermount, Inc. is looking for a Scrum Master to help strengthen Agile delivery for government-facing work. In this role, you will coach teams, facilitate Scrum ceremonies, clear blockers, and support a culture focused on continuous improvement and reliable delivery. You will work closely with stakeholders across levels to align priorities, turn complex needs into sprint-ready goals, and help teams stay effective while balancing routine operational work with strategic initiatives. This position is suitable for someone who can foster trust, guide teams through uncertainty, and improve performance in a fast-paced environment.

Key Duties
- Support the Scrum Team in applying Agile values, principles, and practices to deliver strong products and services.
- Help the team reach a high-performing state by identifying strengths and growth areas and using coaching techniques to improve outcomes.
- Ensure Scrum is properly understood and followed according to its framework and guidelines.
- Encourage self-organization, broader skill development, and effective communication within the team and with outside stakeholders.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to influence decisions and support project or product delivery.
- Work with other Scrum Masters to remove obstacles and improve the organization’s use of Scrum.
- Collaborate with Agile coaches and peers to continue developing in the role.
- Contribute to broader improvements in Agile practices across the organization.
- Facilitate core Scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
- Provide leadership to Agile teams handling primarily business-as-usual work, as well as selected department and corporate initiatives.
- Apply Agile delivery methods to manage operational work alongside strategic and project-based priorities.
- Use Jira for sprint planning, backlog refinement, velocity monitoring, and delivery reporting.
- Use Power BI or similar tools to support dashboarding, retrospectives, and program visibility.
Minimum Qualifications
- Previous experience working on a Scrum team.
- Working knowledge of Scrum and Agile practices.
- Strong skills in communication, mentoring, and interpersonal collaboration.
- Technical understanding of complex enterprise IT systems.
- Ability to lead and coordinate a team effectively.
- Experience speaking and writing clearly with technical, non-technical, and executive audiences.
- Knowledge of risk assessment methods.
- Preferred experience with cloud-based environments and technologies.
- Ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and concise way.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to finding and resolving issues.
- Capability to organize, influence, and motivate a project team.
Preferred Background
- Experience guiding teams through Agile adoption or transformation.
- Certifications such as PSM, PSPO, CSM, SAFe, PMI-ACP, PMP, or ITIL.
- Familiarity with ITIL, PMBOK, the Scrum Guide, Kanban, and Agile best practices.
- Experience working in regulated, compliance-heavy, or governance-focused environments.
- Experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Power BI.
- Experience planning and managing IT projects.

Education and Certification
- A master’s degree is preferred, though relevant professional experience may be accepted.
- A bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of product or project development experience, including 3 years of experience on an Agile team, or an equivalent mix of education and work experience.
- At least one Agile certification is required, such as Agile Scrum Master, Agile Project Manager, or Agile Scrum Professional.
Clearance and Work Arrangement
- Public Trust clearance is required.
- Remote work is authorized.
- Travel may be needed to the client location in Alexandria, Virginia.
- Standard business hours are 8:00 am EST to 4:30 pm EST.
- The role reports to the USPTO Program Manager.
