Role Purpose

The Screener is entrusted with ensuring the security and efficiency of hold baggage screening at the airport. This role involves adhering to regulatory requirements, accurately detecting prohibited or hazardous items, and maintaining smooth operations through effective equipment use and coordination with other security personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Successfully complete all mandated regulatory training and certification attempts.
• Operate X-ray Baggage Inspection Systems (X-BIS) to analyze images for detecting dangerous goods, weapons, ammunition, and prohibited articles following AVSEC circulars and SOPs.
• Conduct physical checks and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) tests on baggage flagged during X-ray screening processes.
• Maintain high Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores to demonstrate proficiency in image interpretation.
• Comply fully with Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directives during all baggage inspection procedures.
• Document findings and maintain records to meet audit and inspection standards.
• Perform daily pre-operational checks on security equipment such as X-BIS, ETD, CT-EDS to confirm functionality.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or operational downtimes and help maintain equipment logs.
• Collaborate effectively with CISF, airline personnel, and other security staff during baggage inspections and resolution of suspicious items.
• Provide timely communication to supervisors regarding operational issues or security concerns.
• Ensure baggage screening tasks are completed promptly without compromising thoroughness and safety.
• Exhibit professional conduct and uphold organizational standards in workplace behavior and discipline.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum educational qualification: High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Required certifications include TSA certification; desirable certifications include BCAS AVSEC basic course, BCAS standalone or inline screener certifications, and DGCA-approved DGR CAT 12 training.
• NCC “B” or “C” certificates will be considered an advantage.
• Open to freshers or candidates with 1-2 years' experience in security screening within an airport or related environment.
• Experience operating screening equipment and understanding of security protocols is preferred.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

• Visual acuity: 20/60 or better in both eyes without corrective lenses, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with glasses/contact lenses.
• Color perception adequate for task requirements.
• Hearing threshold loss less than 30 dB for frequencies below 2000 Hz.
• Clear oral communication ability.
• No significant speech impediments.
• Ability to detect odors related to security screening.

Screeners must consistently demonstrate exemplary civility, appearance, and sobriety, providing courteous service to the public in line with organizational policies.

Stakeholders

Interaction within the organization includes CSO, Avsec Audit & Compliance Leads, Pass Section, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance teams, and other airport departments such as Customer Service and Operations.
Externally, the role involves coordination with TSA, aircraft operators, airport authorities, local police, ASG, BCAS, law enforcement, regulatory bodies, service providers, and industry associations.
