Job description

About the Role

Capable Labs, based in San Francisco, is a dynamic, mission-focused team with expertise from institutions like MIT, Harvard Medical School, and Roche. We operate with rapid yet rigorous scientific methods and value individuals who bring clarity and decisive ownership to complex challenges in an early-stage, fast-paced environment. Our culture prizes high integrity, ambition, and continuous personal growth with meaningful rewards based on contribution and impact.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct mouse model experiments to assess therapeutic candidates for efficacy and safety outcomes.
  • Administer dosages to mice via multiple administration routes including intraperitoneal, intravenous, subcutaneous, oral, intranasal, and others as dictated by study parameters.
  • Collect various biological samples such as blood, serum, plasma, and tissues from organs including liver, kidney, spleen, lung, brain, muscle, heart, tumors, and disease-specific sites.
  • Perform surgical and specialized in vivo procedures as necessary, with appropriate training from the internal team.
  • Analyze pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic, efficacy, and tolerability data to inform iterative decisions on dosing, route, timing, tissue targeting, and candidate selection.
  • Handle EEG mouse models by conducting EEG-related surgeries, electrode placement, monitoring, and electrophysiological data processing in line with protocols.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Practical experience executing mouse studies within biotech, pharmaceutical, academic, or comparable research settings.
  • Proficiency in administering mice dosing through at least intraperitoneal and intravenous routes; familiarity with advanced methods like intranasal delivery is advantageous.
  • Capable of designing studies that directly evaluate key translational questions about drug tissue distribution, target engagement, pathway modulation, therapeutic effect, and safety.
  • Competent in in-life procedures including dosing, necropsy, sample collection and management, and coordination with downstream molecular and biomarker assessments.
  • Ability to rapidly generate well-controlled studies from preceding data sets, leveraging clear hypotheses, dose rationale, endpoints, controls, and stop/go decision criteria while maintaining scientific rigor.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary ranges between $105,000 and $155,000 annually, plus equity options valued approximately at $50,000 to $200,000 before exercise and taxes.
  • Remuneration reflects individual skills, experience, and contribution; discussions are open for candidates with differing compensation expectations based on potential impact.
  • Monthly wellness allowance exceeding $500 to support fitness, nutrition, coaching, recovery, or performance-enhancing resources.
  • Comprehensive healthcare package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, with the employer covering 100% of the base plan costs.
  • Participation in Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and 401(k) plans.
  • Daily provision of nutritious team dinners.
  • Visa sponsorship support for eligible candidates across multiple employment-based visa categories, reflecting a diverse and international workforce.

Application Process

  • Submit initial application.
  • Participate in two rounds of telephone interviews.
  • Attend an in-person practical work trial in San Francisco designed to assess mutual fit with the founding team.

Additional Information

We encourage applications from interested candidates even if not actively seeking new roles or if profiles do not exactly match the description. Referrals are valued, with a thank-you bonus offered for successful candidate introductions.
