Job description
Role Overview
This opportunity is for an early-career molecular biologist who already has practical experience with PCR, NGS, or digital PCR. The role suits someone who enjoys developing assays, improving laboratory workflows, and working with challenging biological samples.
You will be joining a Guildford-area diagnostics organisation focused on advanced molecular and multi-omic testing designed to identify rare cancer signals. The company operates at the intersection of liquid biopsy innovation and translational diagnostics, combining sophisticated biology with a regulated development environment.
In this Scientist I position, you will contribute directly to the design, refinement, and validation of DNA- and RNA-based assays. The work is hands-on and laboratory-led, with meaningful responsibility across the entire assay development process.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, digital PCR, and next-generation sequencing.
- Build and improve molecular assays with a focus on sensitivity and consistent performance.
- Run analytical validation studies covering limits of detection, specificity, precision, and linearity.
About You
- You hold an MSc or PhD in Molecular Biology or a closely related field.
- You bring around 1 to 2 years of experience in molecular assay development or diagnostics.
- You have practical experience working with PCR, NGS, and/or digital PCR.
Location
This role is based in Guildford and requires attendance in the lab five days per week.
Level
Scientist I.
Who This Role Suits
Applicants who are motivated by the development of high-performance molecular assays in a clinically meaningful setting will be a strong fit.
