Where you'll work
Job description
About the role
This position offers the chance to support Queensland’s biosecurity efforts through work on a major invasive species program focused on detecting, identifying, and eradicating Red Imported Fire Ants. It is a hands-on opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about science, environmental protection, and agricultural biosecurity.
You will be part of a team of scientists, technical experts, and field personnel contributing to both research and operational work. The role is varied and may include laboratory specimen identification, assisting with field trials, caring for live ant colonies, gathering and organising scientific data, and supporting the development of improved approaches for fire ant surveillance and control.
This position provides exposure to laboratory, field, and office settings, with the work directly supporting practical biosecurity outcomes. It is well suited to candidates with an interest in entomology, ecology, molecular science, or applied research who enjoy detail-focused tasks and working collaboratively.
What the role offers
You will help deliver work that contributes to a nationally important biosecurity program while building experience in molecular diagnostics and applied scientific research. The role is supported by experienced colleagues in an environment that values teamwork, safety, quality, and professional growth.
If you enjoy laboratory-based work and want to strengthen your technical capability while contributing to meaningful biosecurity outcomes, this opportunity may be a strong fit.
Additional information
Applications will stay active for 12 months.
