Role overview
Oonoonba State School is looking for a practical, energetic Schools Officer with a focus on grounds and facilities. This position suits someone who enjoys outdoor work, takes pride in keeping shared spaces in excellent condition, and wants to contribute to a positive environment for students’ learning and wellbeing. You will be part of the school’s support team and help maintain the grounds, sporting areas, gardens, buildings, and equipment to a high standard.
Working alongside the Principal, Business Manager, and other staff, you will assist in creating a site that is safe, functional, and welcoming for students, employees, and visitors. Oonoonba State School is an Independent Public Primary School with enrolment management. The school has 514 students from Prep to Year 6. About the position
In this role, you will support the efficient day-to-day operation of the school by delivering a high standard of grounds and facilities services to the Principal, Business Manager, or another delegated staff member. The work includes routine tasks that can be carried out independently following instructions, as well as non-routine duties that are completed under regular supervision.
Key duties
- Care for and improve school grounds, gardens, playing fields, and outdoor areas.
- Carry out routine maintenance, small repairs, and general upkeep of buildings, equipment, and school assets.
- Assist with school operations such as setting up events, handling stock, receiving deliveries, and providing general facilities support.
- Oversee security-related systems, access arrangements, and site safety measures.
- Work in line with workplace health and safety obligations and operate equipment safely.
- Work with school staff, contractors, and suppliers to support maintenance tasks and improvement work.
- Manage grounds equipment and undertake landscaping and maintenance of ovals, gardens, and recreational spaces.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, well-presented campus for students, staff, and visitors.

Additional information
