Job description

Overview

Mackay North State High School is seeking a permanent full-time Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities. In this role, you will help keep the campus running efficiently and looking well cared for through practical, day-to-day support across grounds, buildings, events, security, and general operations. The work is varied, hands-on, and directly contributes to the experience of students, staff, and the wider school community.

The school supports students to achieve success across a range of pathways from Junior Secondary through to Senior Secondary, and the community holds high expectations for every student.

This role is part of a progressional classification structure, meaning the salary range covers two levels. Appointment will be made at the level that matches your skills and evidence of meeting the required criteria.

Key duties

  • Deliver everyday operational assistance throughout the school, including distributing mail and documents, photocopying, setting up classrooms and events, moving furniture, managing stores, tracking stock, and maintaining asset records.
  • Assist with security and administrative tasks by using security systems, controlling building access, keeping registers up to date, and transporting school funds for deposit.
  • Help maintain facilities and support school events by handling waste management, clearing drains and gutters, carrying out urgent cleaning jobs, arranging rubbish removal, and preparing spaces for major activities and functions.
  • Maintain safe work practices and comply with workplace health and safety standards, including managing chemical and fuel storage, spotting hazards, keeping equipment records, and coordinating repairs and servicing.
  • Carry out grounds and facilities maintenance tasks such as organising repairs, looking after outdoor sporting areas, managing supplies, coordinating with contractors and staff, and supporting specialist equipment used by the school.
  • Keep school grounds in good condition through mowing, gardening, irrigation, tree and shrub care, and the operation and servicing of grounds machinery, while also supporting agricultural programs when needed.

Application information

To apply, submit a brief resume that includes contact details for two referees who are familiar with your relevant work history, a two-page written response addressing the attached role description, and evidence that you meet the mandatory requirements listed in the role description.

The department welcomes applicants to advise of any support required to make the recruitment process inclusive.

Applications will remain active for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for other identical or similar vacancies within the department. Recruitment agency applications will not be accepted.
