Job description

Job Overview

This role entails ensuring the safe crossing of schoolchildren to and from school by managing traffic and pedestrian behaviors at designated crossing points. The officer will operate hazard warning signs, monitor roadside safety, and complete necessary administrative duties while adhering to legal and organizational safety standards.

Main Duties

  • Direct and regulate children’s behavior at crossing locations to maintain safety.
  • Follow instructions as outlined in the Education Authority’s official guidelines for School Crossing Patrols.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 and other relevant legal requirements.
  • Perform all tasks consistent with the job’s inherent working conditions.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Undertake additional tasks at the same grade level within competence as assigned, acknowledging that the role’s scope may evolve.
  • Promote equality, opportunity, and positive relations in compliance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998).

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Willingness to engage in role-related training.
  • Demonstrable understanding of road safety and traffic awareness.
