Job description
Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, the School Bus Monitor ensures the secure transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, neighborhoods, and special trips.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain orderly behavior and discipline on the bus per district guidelines, documenting any disciplinary incidents.
- Keep accurate records and reports as required.
- Ensure no child is left unattended on the bus at any time, confirming all children depart at the end of each route.
- Manage inventory and report needs for bus emergency and first aid supplies to the Director.
- Prepare students and aides for bus evacuation drills and organize compliance with drill requirements.
- Execute emergency evacuation and medical protocols during accidents or emergencies, completing necessary reports.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development sessions.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Travel Requirements
- Travel to various district sites, including school buildings and field trip locations, is required.

- Able to understand and follow procedural manuals and related materials.
- Physical ability to move throughout the bus, center, and classrooms.
- Ability to stay composed under pressure during emergencies.

Working Conditions
Work occurs primarily in the environment of a typical school bus. Refer to the Summary of Physical, Sensory, and Environmental Requirements for essential function performance.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: Prior experience as a bus monitor, preferably with children in a school district or transportation setting.
Employment Classification
This position is classified as nonexempt under FLSA guidelines.
