Job description

Role overview

Lancashire County Council is looking for an experienced and committed School Attendance Support Worker to join its School Attendance Support Team. This is a fixed-term, term-time-only post at Grade 8 (SCP 25-30), with a pro-rata salary of £36,363 to £40,777, running until 1 September 2028.

The role focuses on improving pupil attendance by advising and supporting schools, families, and partner services. You will help ensure schools have effective strategies in place to tackle attendance barriers and support the local authority in delivering its responsibilities under national school attendance guidance.

This is an agile position with regular travel to schools in Preston and across Lancashire as required. Flexibility, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to adapt to different school settings are essential.

Key duties

You will work directly with senior leaders in schools to discuss attendance concerns, build practical solutions, and help strengthen partnerships between schools, families, the local authority, and voluntary sector services. The post also involves using multiple data sources to track attendance patterns and inform action.

The role is varied and offers the chance to influence attendance outcomes for children and young people in a meaningful way.

Application information

Applicants should make sure they address all criteria from the person specification in their supporting evidence at the application stage. Some criteria may also be explored further at interview.

A CV and covering letter must be uploaded before submission. No further documents will be accepted after the closing date.

The recruitment process may close early if enough applications are received.

Safeguarding and vetting

This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, as amended in 2013. If appointed, you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Interview details

Applications must be submitted by Wednesday 24 June at 12 noon. Interviews are scheduled for Wednesday 1 July 2026, and the interview time or date cannot be changed.
