About the Role
The New York Islanders Hockey Club, a legendary sports franchise known for its notable history including four consecutive Stanley Cup victories in the 1980s, is hiring a Part-Time Community Relations School Assembly Host. This position involves representing the organization at approximately 50 elementary and middle school assemblies across Long Island and Metro New York during the academic year. The host will deliver lively, educational, and entertaining presentations and serve as a professional ambassador for the Islanders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead about 50 school assemblies annually by presenting Islanders-related educational content to young students.
- Engage audiences with enthusiasm, confident delivery, and a strong stage presence.
- Interact professionally with students, educators, and school personnel.
- Follow carefully crafted program scripts while adapting presentations to the school environment.
- Collaborate with Sparky the Dragon mascot and Community Relations team during presentations.
- Maintain punctuality for all scheduled events and assist with transport, setup, and breakdown of assembly materials.
- Occasionally support other Community Relations initiatives such as festivals, youth hockey clinics, fan events, charities, and partner programs.
Candidate Qualifications
- Comfortable addressing large groups of children with energetic and engaging presence.
- Dependable and punctual with the ability to adapt quickly and improvise as needed.
- Passionate about creating memorable experiences and representing the Islanders positively.
- Proficient in public speaking with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled at engaging elementary and middle school-aged audiences.
- Organized with effective time-management capabilities, able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Physically capable of lifting and handling event equipment.
- Preferred: Minimum two years of experience in hosting, emceeing, teaching, public speaking, or performing.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation are required.
Work Details
- Part-time seasonal employment primarily between September and May aligned with the school calendar.
- Typical work hours are weekday mornings and early afternoons, with occasional events on evenings or weekends.
- Travel will cover Nassau County, Suffolk County, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and other Metro New York areas.
- Office bases include Northwell Health Ice Center (East Meadow) and UBS Arena/Islanders Executive Offices (Floral Park).
