Scaffolding Engineer

Role overview

The Scaffolding Engineer will create and manage reusable templates and automation pipelines in Bitbucket to speed up service onboarding, bring consistency to infrastructure and code patterns, and strengthen the developer experience through a paved-road approach. The position helps product and platform teams launch new services with built-in observability, security, and feature-flag capabilities, aligned with enterprise standards.

Key accountabilities

• Produce and support reusable code, infrastructure, and service scaffold templates in Bitbucket for microservices and serverless use cases.
• Connect scaffold templates with the internal developer portal, Backstage, so service setup and onboarding can run automatically.
• Build platform standards into the templates, including security controls, observability, CI/CD pipelines as code, and feature-flag support through GrowthBook.
• Work closely with the Platform Architect, Senior Platform Engineer, and application teams to improve scaffold flows and enhance the developer experience.
• Keep the scaffolds and automation easy to maintain, versioned, and flexible enough to support future platform changes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scaffold templates covering infrastructure as code such as Terraform and CloudFormation, application boilerplate, configuration as code, and CI/CD pipeline definitions, all stored in Bitbucket repositories.
• Link the templates to Backstage so engineering teams can self-serve service onboarding.
• Include default integrations for Splunk-based observability, logging, monitoring, security, compliance, CI/CD pipeline automation, and GrowthBook feature flags in every scaffold.
• Continuously refine the templates using developer feedback and adoption insights.
• Partner with security, compliance, and DevOps stakeholders to ensure the scaffolds follow platform rules and remain secure and compliant.
• Apply disciplined Bitbucket practices, including version control, branching, and code reviews, to preserve quality and traceability.
