About Kerry
Kerry is a global leader in taste and nutrition solutions for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors. The company works with customers to develop products that are healthier, more enjoyable, and more sustainable for people around the world. Its long-term goal is to be a trusted partner in shaping a future focused on sustainable nutrition, while giving employees room to learn, grow, and contribute in a worldwide business.
Work Location
This opportunity is based at Kerry’s Harrisonburg, Virginia facility, which is part of the Taste division and produces stock broth, soups, and bases. The site operates in a fast-moving environment and also takes part in community activities through Kerry’s employee engagement efforts. The company is looking for someone interested in building a manufacturing career while working with a collaborative team.
Shift Schedule
The role is an immediate opening for the day shift, running from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule.
Role Overview
As a Sanitation Technician, you will help maintain a safe, clean, and compliant production environment. The role places strong emphasis on safety leadership, safe work habits, and consistent adherence to quality and food safety standards. You will be expected to identify and report unsafe conditions, follow sanitation procedures, and support site compliance requirements.
Key Duties
- Clean production spaces that are especially sensitive to environmental contamination.
- Use foamers, pressure washers, and hose stations correctly and efficiently, while handling cleaning chemicals according to company procedures.
- Understand the chemicals used in the plant, including their purpose, proper dilution, handling methods, and response steps in case of accidental exposure.
- Maintain cleanliness of stairs, railings, landings, ledges, lights, and floors at all times.
- Work safely when using stepladders, scaffolding, and related equipment.
- Wash walls, tank exteriors, and overhead piping, including tasks that involve repeated motions.
- Complete master sanitation schedules after each assigned task.
- Operate CIP systems, manage chemical usage, and refill chemical barrels from bulk feeders.
- Follow batch/lot controls, sampling processes, and HACCP procedures.
- Watch for equipment problems that could create a safety risk and report them immediately to a supervisor.
- Carry out minor painting work on parts of the building and equipment when needed.
- Clean footbaths and handle restroom janitorial work as assigned.
- Operate a forklift.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. Prior experience of six months to one year in a food manufacturing setting is preferred.
Physical and Working Conditions
This position requires frequent walking and standing, along with extended periods of scrubbing, sweeping, and scouring. You must be able to climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, crouch, squat, push, pull, and handle materials regularly. The work may require lifting washing pails, chemical containers, equipment, or product bags weighing up to 50 pounds and sometimes more. Reading, writing, and good vision are necessary for the job.
The role is primarily indoors and may involve exposure to humidity, dust, fumes, noise, and chemical substances. Hearing protection is required. At times, you may work near moving equipment or sharp tools, in tight spaces, and on wet flooring made of linoleum, metal grates, or concrete. Temperature conditions vary by season and task. The job may also require working in both cold and hot environments, as well as performing outdoor tasks such as snow removal and trash pickup around the building.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected hiring range is $21.93 to $25.00 per hour, depending on factors such as education, experience, certifications, and location. Kerry also provides a benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase options, and retirement contributions, subject to eligibility requirements.
