About the Company

MACNA is a Saudi-owned marine mobility company and part of the Al Blagha Group. Since 1996, it has focused on transporting passengers and cargo through a specialised fleet of more than 30 vessels. The company is recognized in the Kingdom for high-speed passenger ferries and landing craft, and it aims to provide safe, dependable, and customer-focused service built on long-standing experience and operational expertise.

About the Role

This site-based position calls for a proactive Safety Officer to strengthen and monitor safety across fleet, marine, and shore operations. The selected candidate will help ensure strict adherence to international maritime rules, company procedures, and QHSE systems while building a strong safety mindset across the organisation. The role covers inspections, audits, risk reviews, and incident investigations, with a focus on identifying hazards early, reducing risk, and supporting emergency readiness, compliance, and ongoing improvement in collaboration with vessel crews, shore teams, and outside stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, update, and sustain the Marine Safety and QHSE management framework.
  • Verify compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, the ISM Code, STCW, and relevant QHSE requirements.
  • Carry out vessel audits, safety checks, and emergency drills.
  • Complete risk assessments and hazard studies, then recommend controls to reduce exposure.
  • Introduce safety measures designed to avoid accidents, injuries, and occupational illness.
  • Manage emergency readiness, fire protection, lifesaving equipment, and pollution control measures.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, determine root causes, and define corrective and preventive actions.
  • Draft incident reports in accordance with legal and company expectations.
  • Provide safety and QHSE training to crew members and shore-based staff.
  • Encourage safety awareness, accountability, and continuous enhancement of standards.
  • Assist with environmental compliance and execution of environmental management plans.
  • Support quality assurance activities related to safe vessel operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related discipline.
  • Background in seafaring or marine operations.
  • Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or IOSH, with marine specialization preferred.
  • Exposure to Safety Management Systems (SMS) and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
  • Good grasp of emergency response procedures and risk management practices.
  • Ability to review safety data and communicate findings clearly.

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, STCW, and marine safety procedures.
  • Capability in risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action planning.
  • Strong attention to detail and solid documentation/reporting skills.
  • Leadership, communication, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to influence and reinforce a positive safety culture.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience handling Safety Management Systems and ISO 9001/14001/45001 frameworks.
  • Certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or IOSH, especially with a marine focus.
