Role Overview

The Safety & Mission Assurance Engineer I is central to ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of each Rocket Lab launch. You will support documentation and operational activities to guarantee safe and compliant missions ready for launch.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage mission submission projects by coordinating across multiple teams to prepare accurate regulatory documentation for each launch vehicle mission within deadlines.
• Oversee Flight Safety System (FSS) mission submission tasks, including review of safety-critical component test reports, identification of out-of-family components, preparation of FSS system summary reports, and communication with regulatory bodies.
• Prepare and submit payload permit applications for Rocket Lab payloads.
• Conduct Payload Safety Assessments for low-hazard payloads and collaborate with operations teams to handle payload-specific hazards during missions.
• Ensure compliance with orbital debris mitigation requirements for new spacecraft programs.
• Train to assume the role of Launch Safety Official during launch operations to monitor regulatory adherence.
• Conduct internal audits and compliance monitoring across the organization, ensure timely submission of annual reports, and maintain accuracy in regulatory documents during change management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or relevant discipline.
• Minimum two years of engineering experience focused on regulatory compliance, requirements management, or safety.
• Familiarity with quality management systems.
• Strong skills in project management, communication, and technical writing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of space system regulations and operational standards.
• Experience with safety management systems and related standards.
• Ability to interpret and comprehend emerging standards and regulations.
• Understanding of engineering development and manufacturing processes.
