Job Overview
The Safety Manager role entails supervising and enhancing workplace safety programs across multiple dealership locations. This position collaborates closely with dealership leadership, department managers, and staff to encourage a secure work environment. Key duties include hazard identification and remediation, maintaining necessary safety documentation, and ensuring adherence to relevant safety regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and update safety programs, procedures, and training content tailored to dealership operations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections at various dealership sites including service, body shop, parts, warehouse, rental, and administrative areas.
- Spot hazardous conditions and unsafe practices, collaborating with management to implement corrective measures.
- Support managerial teams in sustaining safe workplace conditions and enforcing safety protocols.
- Coordinate and deliver employee safety training sessions, encompassing new hire orientations and ongoing education.
- Keep comprehensive records of safety inspections, training, corrective actions, and other mandated documentation.
- Assist with OSHA-related record maintenance when applicable.
- Stay informed about updates in workplace safety laws and recommend policy revisions accordingly.
- Analyze incidents such as accidents, injuries, and near misses to identify root causes and preventive strategies.
- Participate in incident investigations and produce detailed reports.
- Monitor safety trends and present findings to company leadership regularly.
- Manage workers’ compensation documentation and facilitate return-to-work processes.
- Collaborate with external entities including insurers, safety consultants, and medical professionals when necessary.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills and fire prevention efforts.
- Oversee safety programs related to hazardous materials, chemical labeling, protective equipment, and operational hazards within various dealership departments.
- Encourage active employee involvement in safety initiatives and timely hazard reporting.
- Serve as a safety advisor for all organizational levels.
- Maintain regular presence at company locations to support safety practices.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Educational and Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, occupational safety, environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, risk management, or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety principles and hazard recognition.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills suitable for interaction with staff, management, and external partners.
- Capability to prepare clear, professional reports, policies, and training materials.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and ensure completion of corrective actions.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accurate record-keeping.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to travel to various dealership locations.
Desired Qualifications
- Academic coursework related to OSHA regulations, industrial safety, ergonomics, hazardous materials, environmental compliance, emergency management, or accident investigation.
- Relevant experience such as internships, cooperative education, campus safety roles, military service, or volunteer work in safety, operations, engineering, or risk management.
- Certifications like Graduate Safety Practitioner, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, OSHA 30-Hour, First Aid/CPR, or equivalent credentials.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Capability to walk, stand, bend, climb stairs, and move throughout various operational areas including service bays, body shops, parts departments, warehouses, and outdoor settings.
- Ability to inspect equipment, vehicles, storage, and workspaces.
- Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to automotive service environments involving noise, moving vehicles, machinery, chemicals, fumes, heat, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment as required in specific areas.
- Regular daytime travel across company locations with occasional overnight stays.
