Job description

Duties

  • Perform routine safety inspections and investigations to enforce occupational safety and health laws.
  • Conduct training sessions focused on accident prevention, safe working practices, and identifying hazards.
  • Advise on corrective actions to eliminate unsafe behaviors or hazardous conditions, ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee the submission, progress, and completion of work orders for assigned areas, ensuring abatement plans are created as needed.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to determine prevention strategies and recommend corrective measures.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and registered for Selective Service if male and born after December 31, 1959.
  • Eligible for federal employment and capable of obtaining a security clearance, as the position may involve access to classified information.
  • New hires must pass the E-Verify employment verification process.
  • At GS-07 level: Requires one year of specialized experience related to assisting in safety and occupational health program planning and policy implementation, or equivalent graduate education/substitution.
  • At GS-09 level: Requires one year of higher-level specialized experience involving application of recognized safety and health principles, advising management, and aiding in development of safety practices, or equivalent higher graduate education.
  • Education from accredited U.S. institutions or evaluated foreign education is required with proof submitted before appointment.

Additional Information

  • Relocation expenses will not be covered.
  • This position is not part of a bargaining unit and follows Fair Labor Standards Act rules with GS-07 non-exempt and GS-09 exempt classifications.
  • The role may require a probation period of one year for performance evaluation.
  • Travel requirements are minimal.
  • Employment of retired federal employees is subject to Department of Defense regulations.
  • Drug testing is not mandated.
  • Pay for first-time federal employees will generally be set at step 1 for the applicable grade.
  • Security clearance levels depend on job requirements; background investigations may affect employment start date.
