Overview

Hotel Equities, a distinguished hotel development and management firm, is seeking a dedicated Room Attendant for the Towneplace Suites by Marriott in Red Deer, Alberta. This role is essential to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction to support the hotel's revenue and reputation.

Primary Duties

  • Prepare and maintain cleaning carts stocked with necessary supplies from storerooms ensuring organization and cleanliness for efficient room servicing.
  • Thoroughly clean windows, doors, walls, closets, and fixtures in guest rooms and public spaces, including high and difficult-to-reach areas using ladders or stools.
  • Sanitize bathrooms by washing shower and tub surfaces, toilets, sinks, mirrors, and exposed plumbing for guest and public restrooms.
  • Restock room amenities such as towels, soaps, and literature, replacing any used or damaged items to fully prepare rooms for arriving guests.
  • Manually clean hard flooring such as linoleum and tile to remove dirt and stains.
  • Dust and polish all furniture and decorative elements including vents and ceiling corners to eliminate dust and cobwebs.
  • Strip beds and remake with fresh linens, inspecting bedspreads, blankets, and pads for cleanliness, replacing when soiled and checking beneath mattresses.
  • Clean closets including wiping doors, handles, and shelves, and restock supplies like hangers, extra pillows, and blankets.
  • Vacuum carpets in rooms, public areas, and hallways, including difficult areas under heavy furniture, and operate vacuums weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Check door and window locks for safety and report any security concerns immediately to management.
  • Inspect in-room equipment such as TVs, lamps, faucets, and radios to ensure functionality and promptly notify the Executive Housekeeper of any maintenance issues in writing.
  • Secure hotel property including equipment, keys, and supplies to prevent loss or damage.
  • Maintain a pleasant, courteous, and professional attitude at all times.
  • Assist with laundry tasks by collecting soiled linens, sorting loads, operating industrial washers/dryers/pressers, and distributing clean linens appropriately.
  • Clean outdoor patio and balcony areas by sweeping, washing, wiping furniture, removing trash, and cleaning windows and doors.
  • Support other hotel departments as needed to help achieve overall hotel performance.

Qualifications and Physical Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent secondary education.
  • Experience with cleaning standards from major hotel brands such as Marriott, Hilton, IHG, or Wyndham preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and equipment operation is required.
  • Visual acuity to identify small dirt particles and read instructions/computer printouts is necessary.
  • Physical stamina to lift up to 50lbs repetitively during an 8-hour shift and manual dexterity for handling equipment and furniture.
  • Ability to work with arms raised overhead for prolonged periods and maneuver maid carts weighing up to 50lbs through hallways and storage areas.

Work Environment and Other Expectations

  • Usage of standard cleaning tools including vacuums, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, ladders, and commercial laundry machines.
  • Regular exposure to hazardous cleaning chemicals and physical exertion in indoor, climate-controlled and occasionally hot laundry environments.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for guest and staff interactions.
  • Competence in reading, writing, problem-solving, motivation, and occasional training assignments.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
