Role Overview

We seek a highly adaptable and autonomous 3D Artist (Generalist) skilled in creating diverse models such as characters, vehicles, props, and full environments for leading UGC gaming platforms and branded experiences. This freelance role demands a flexible artist able to navigate both realistic and stylized aesthetics, carrying assets from initial concepts to final game-ready integration, optimized for Roblox environments.

Responsibilities

• Craft a wide array of 3D assets including characters, vehicles, props, and entire environments with both realistic and stylized approaches.
• Handle the full production pipeline from concept and blocking to finalizing models with clean topology, UV mapping, and textures optimized for Roblox.
• Optimize all models ensuring performance efficiency for smooth streaming and gameplay across devices.
• Independently manage workload efficiently, maintaining high-quality output at a swift pace without requiring close supervision.
• Collaborate creatively with Art Directors, Technical Artists, and Game Designers to uphold consistent style, tone, and quality in projects.
• Engage directly with clients and stakeholders to interpret project briefs and integrate feedback effectively into deliverables.
• Actively participate in reviews and brainstorming, rapidly iterating based on feedback from team members and clients.
• Remain informed about the latest modeling tools, techniques, and stylistic trends in UGC gaming to ensure cutting-edge production.

Candidate Qualifications

• A minimum of three years’ experience in 3D modeling for gaming, interactive media, or real-time production environments.
• A versatile portfolio showcasing realistic and stylized work across at least two categories such as characters, vehicles, or environments.
• Expertise in Roblox Studio workflows and strong knowledge of optimization techniques including StreamingEnabled and low-poly modeling.
• Proficiency with 3D software like Blender, Maya, or equivalents, capable of producing Roblox-compatible FBX files.
• Strong technical understanding of topology, UV mapping, lighting, composition, and troubleshooting integration and performance issues.
• A player-focused approach, appreciating how visual design influences gameplay experience and flow.
• Exceptional self-management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines autonomously.
• Excellent communication skills, comfortable collaborating across disciplines and presenting ideas clearly.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience with Substance Painter or Designer for creating detailed textures.
• Knowledge of cinematic lighting methods for environment design.
• Familiarity with avatar rigging and custom character controllers within Roblox.
• Past involvement in developing plugins or tools to enhance Roblox development workflows.
• Understanding of additional game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.

Compensation and Work Conditions

This position is a freelance hourly role requiring availability primarily during Pacific Standard Time core hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Compensation ranges between $30 and $45 per hour.
