Job Overview

The Risk Management Consultant role is pivotal in ensuring the robustness and effectiveness of the tax entity's risk management framework, especially tailored to the GCC region. The consultant will oversee various risk dimensions, including organizational, financial, operational, reputational, and cyber risks with a focus on tax-related functions.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed risk assessments to pinpoint, evaluate, and rank potential risks across all functions of the tax entity.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive risk register identifying risks, their impacts, chances of occurrence, and mitigation approaches.
  • Utilize data analytics and other tools to assess how effectively risk mitigation strategies perform.
  • Create and apply a customized risk management framework suited to GCC region specifics.
  • Define the organization's risk appetite and tolerance consistent with strategic goals and regulatory compliance.
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities for risk oversight within the entity, promoting responsibility at every level.
  • Develop training initiatives to elevate awareness and understanding of risk management among employees.
  • Design and deploy internal controls to minimize identified risks and ensure tax law compliance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to embed risk management into business workflows and decision processes.
  • Manage integration efforts with external bodies contributing to risk models.
  • Periodically reassess and update control protocols in response to changing risks and regulations.
  • Oversee compliance monitoring related to tax laws, tackling any non-compliance swiftly.
  • Create comprehensive reporting systems for timely, accurate updates on risk status and mitigation activities.
  • Produce frequent reports for senior leadership highlighting major risk areas and advocating corrective measures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a similar discipline.
  • Preferred: Master's degree or certification in risk management.
  • Familiarity with statistical or econometrics modeling techniques.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in risk management, ideally within tax or related sectors.
  • Strong expertise in GCC tax laws, regulatory frameworks, and business customs.
  • Profound understanding of risk evaluation methods and control implementations.
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of working autonomously and collaboratively within teams.
  • Fluent in English; Arabic language skills are a significant advantage.
