Overview

The Revenue Cycle Billing Support Specialist plays a critical role in accurately inputting, reviewing, and maintaining essential patient demographic, encounter, and billing data. This function supports the overall Revenue Cycle Department operations within a busy healthcare environment emphasizing attention to detail, organizational capability, and multitasking skills.

This position is based on-site at the company headquarters located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Input patient demographics, encounter information, insurance details, and billing data into designated spreadsheets and tracking tools.
  • Thoroughly review all data entries for accuracy and completeness before submission or processing.
  • Cross-check data between Electronic Medical Records (EMR), OASAS Revenue Calculator, billing files, and Excel sheets to ensure consistency and integrity.
  • Report any discrepancies, absent data, or billing concerns to leadership in the Revenue Cycle Department.
  • Support Revenue Cycle team members in reviewing, cleansing, and validating billing files prior to submission for payer processing.
  • Keep comprehensive records and documentation of completed tasks and corrections made.
  • Regularly organize and update spreadsheets used for billing, reporting, and revenue operations.
  • Monitor assigned work queues closely and complete data entry assignments within designated timeframes.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of patient data, adhering to HIPAA, PHI standards, and organizational privacy policies.
  • Carry out additional duties related to departmental support as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preferably one to two years of experience in medical billing, healthcare data entry, revenue cycle processes, or related healthcare roles.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and healthcare billing software is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as eClinicalWorks (eCW), TenEleven, or similar systems is a plus.
  • Proven ability handling large volumes of data entry and managing spreadsheets efficiently.

Skills Required

  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail in data entry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of sorting, filtering, and basic formulas.
  • Capability to handle multiple spreadsheets and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational aptitude and time management skills.
  • Ability to detect discrepancies and resolve data issues proficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment with sensitive information.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant medical terminology, insurance, CPT, HCPCS, and diagnosis coding preferred.
  • Team player with ability to work independently.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Indoor office setting primarily.
  • Extended periods seated with substantial computer use.
  • Regular hand and finger activity for typing and office equipment.
  • Repetitive hand/wrist movements associated with data entry.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • High focus on accuracy as errors have financial and operational impacts.
