Job description

Role Overview

We seek a confident risk and compliance expert to join SBS Retail in an essential first line role. You will collaborate with business teams to promote excellent member outcomes by identifying, understanding, and managing risk across retail operations, products, processes, and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Retail leadership, frontline staff, and the Risk and Compliance teams to embed robust risk management practices.
  • Support incident management and oversee control measures within retail operations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of risk reports and drive change initiatives.
  • Encourage clear accountability for risk and control ownership throughout the business.
  • Ensure compliance with disclosure, member communication, and regulatory obligations by effectively implementing relevant requirements.
  • Conduct first line risk assessments, ongoing monitoring, and control oversight to maintain adherence to legislative, regulatory, policy, and risk framework standards.

Candidate Qualifications

Essential:

  • Thorough knowledge of risk management frameworks, controls, incident handling, and remediation processes.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify patterns and convey insights across diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and nurture collaborative relationships across departments.
  • Excellent written communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand's regulatory environment and relevant legal requirements.

Preferred:

  • Experience applying regulatory and legislative standards within banking or financial services.
  • Background in operational risk management, compliance, conduct risk, or related areas, preferably in banking.
  • Involvement in supporting change management initiatives.
  • Either a relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualification in commerce, finance, or law, or significant industry experience within a financial institution or comparable organization.

Additional Information

This position is a fixed-term contract lasting up to 24 months to cover a secondment during a major project. The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, working 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
