About the Role

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD), is looking for a dedicated Residential Shopper to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Pee Dee Regional Center in Florence, SC. This mid-level role involves assisting consumers with purchasing necessities and supporting their daily living activities under the supervision of the Residential Director. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible candidates, distributed over the first year of continuous employment, along with shift differentials up to $3.50/hour for applicable shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure various items for consumers including clothing, electronics, adaptive equipment, treatment materials, and event supplies using designated funds.
  • Distribute purchased items to respective residential units, document all inventory in the Therap system including discarded items.
  • Coordinate and conduct state-related shopping for residential facility needs such as decorations to enhance living environments.
  • Regularly assess and monitor supply levels and storage areas either in person or through coordination with residential staff.
  • Provide direct, hands-on care to consumers following BHDD-OIDD guidelines; assist in activities of daily living and ensure their safety within residential settings.
  • Transport and supervise consumers to off-campus appointments and activities, offering necessary support and respectful, dignified interaction.
  • Perform any other duties assigned to ensure the effective completion of job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs.
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Preferred knowledge includes intellectual disabilities, federal and state regulations, and basic safety protocols.
  • Computer literacy with systems such as Therap and SCEIS Central for documentation and timekeeping.
  • Physical capacity for lifting, standing, kneeling, running, and handling challenging situations including working with physically aggressive or medically fragile individuals.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Additional Employment Conditions

Employment depends on satisfactory completion of medical and drug screenings, background checks including fingerprint and child abuse registry, DMV driving record review, and educational credential verification. Tuberculosis testing and proof of immunization against several diseases are also required prior to employment. Candidates may be required to work during emergencies as part of the State Disaster Plan.
