Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Residential Property Officer to join our team based in Leicester. This position involves working full-time, 37 hours per week, primarily within children's homes overseen by the Local Authority, supporting property repairs, maintenance, and health and safety monitoring. You will also assist young people both in care and those transitioning to independent living, helping them gain practical DIY skills to foster independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair work including building repairs, painting, decorating, electrical and plumbing tasks to a competent level within various children's homes and independent accommodations across the city.
- Conduct health and safety checks such as water temperature and fire safety inspections, record findings diligently, and maintain accurate electronic records.
- Collaborate with residential teams and the Leaving Care Team to support young people’s transition to independent living by providing DIY training and support to set up their accommodations.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors performing outsourced work to ensure quality and compliance on site.
- Follow work schedules effectively and adhere to risk assessments and reporting protocols.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in property maintenance activities including practical skills with repairs, painting, decorating, electrical and plumbing work.
- Ability to maintain tools and equipment and safely perform moving and handling duties.
- Numeracy, literacy, and computer skills sufficient to handle electronic record keeping, risk assessments, and produce reports for council departments.
- Possession of a valid full driving license and access to a vehicle for job-related travel within Leicester.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including outside regular Monday-to-Friday schedules when necessary.
- This role requires enhanced DBS clearance and social care background checks.
Employment Details
This is a fixed-term full-time role based across various locations within Leicester City. The service is expanding from 6 to 8 children's homes in the coming two years, offering an opportunity to contribute to both existing operations and new projects.
