About the Position

The Ecologic Institute, based in Berlin, operates at the forefront of climate policy development for Germany and Europe, offering evidence-driven strategies aimed at achieving a climate-neutral economy. We are seeking a Researcher to join our team, focusing on climate policy with flexible full- or part-time engagement (minimum 25 hours per week).

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to climate policy projects at national and European levels, with emphasis on economic or governance aspects of climate neutrality transition.
  • Conduct independent scientific research and communicate findings to target audiences including the European Commission, European Environment Agency, German Ministry for the Environment (BMUKN), and Federal Environment Agency (UBA).
  • Collaborate with the team to both acquire new projects and continue existing ones, covering areas such as climate governance, energy transition, carbon dioxide removal (CDR) policy, and emissions trading system (ETS) design.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative research methodologies including stakeholder engagement, impact assessments, policy evaluations, and indicator-based assessments.
  • Represent research outcomes in scientific and policy forums such as workshops and conferences.

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s degree in economics, political science, or related fields (PhD preferred).
  • Minimum of three years professional experience in applied environmental policy research or policy advisory roles.
  • In-depth understanding of German and European climate policy landscapes and current challenges, with added advantage of expertise in climate policy’s competitiveness and industrial transition aspects.
  • Advanced knowledge of climate policy instruments, especially economic tools like carbon pricing and governance frameworks for planning and monitoring.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative methodological competencies and analytic expertise.
  • Experience in project acquisition and management at national or European levels.
  • Networking connections to stakeholders in government, academia, civil society, and private sector are beneficial.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a diverse, interdisciplinary, international team.
  • Fluency in German and English, in both written and oral communication.
