About Lambton College

Lambton College recognizes that it operates on the traditional territory of the Ojibwe, Potawatomi and Odawa Nations. As the second-oldest college in Ontario’s publicly funded system, it has supported learners and communities for almost 60 years and is guided by its 2025-2029 strategic plan. The college focuses on delivering strong learning and research experiences, building a supportive workplace culture, and strengthening partnerships that create impact locally, nationally, and globally.

The college welcomes applicants who want to contribute to this direction and be part of its broader mission and values.

About the Role

This is a full-time support staff position based in Sarnia, Ontario, reporting to the LMIC Manager. The role is scheduled for 35 hours per week and offers an hourly wage of $32.10.

The selected candidate will work with the instrumentation and control team on research initiatives involving collaboration with research staff, students, industry partners, and Applied Research and Innovation Office colleagues.

What You Will Do

You will support the day-to-day delivery of research projects and contribute to research activity such as literature review, data analysis, and experimentation within the instrumentation and control field.

You will also contribute to instrumentation-related project work, including design, implementation, installation, calibration, and documentation.

In addition, you will help design, install, and implement control systems and methods used in research projects, such as advanced process control, distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.

The role also includes troubleshooting research control and instrumentation systems through node analysis, electronic diagnostic testing, port analysis, and communication testing.

Another part of the work involves constructing control and instrumentation systems, including the structural, mechanical, and instrumentation components required for project delivery.

Qualifications

Applicants should have at least a three-year post-secondary degree or diploma in Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology.

They should also bring a minimum of two years of experience in Visual Basic interface programming, software application programming and troubleshooting, and computer network troubleshooting for isolated systems.

A working knowledge of some of the following systems is needed: Allen Bradley PLC, Triconex PLC, Honeywell Experion, SMAR Fieldbus, and Emerson Delta V.

Strong analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and sound evaluation judgment are important for troubleshooting issues and developing practical solutions across a range of situations.

Equal Opportunity and Accommodation

The college follows an inclusive, barrier-free hiring process. Candidates who need accommodation during the selection process should inform the interview coordinator, and any accommodation-related information will be handled confidentially.

Only candidates chosen for an interview will be contacted.

Lambton College is an equal opportunity employer and actively encourages applications from women, Indigenous peoples, racialized people, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The college also encourages applicants to apply even if they feel the role may be a stretch, as it recognizes the role of structural barriers and uses employment equity considerations in its hiring approach.

Employee Perks

Lambton College offers competitive total compensation, along with wages and benefits for both unionized and non-unionized roles. Employees also have access to development opportunities, a supportive wellness culture, and a workplace environment designed to help them grow professionally and personally.

The benefits package includes a defined benefit pension plan through CAAT, which provides predictable lifetime retirement income, survivor benefits, and early retirement options without the need to manage investments personally.
