Overview
The Encyclopaedia Africana Project (EAP) is a pan-African initiative devoted to the documentation, preservation, and dissemination of African history, culture, scientific advancements, technological innovations, and intellectual heritage. The Secretariat is seeking a highly driven Research Officer to enhance research, publication, and knowledge management operations.
Role Purpose
The Research Officer will back the Secretariat in delivering top-quality research, preparing technical documents and reports, facilitating editorial duties, managing research data, and assisting in the successful execution of the Secretariat's programs and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform literature reviews and conduct research on assigned thematic topics.
- Support editorial workflows, including fact verification, proofreading, copy editing, and reference validation.
- Compile research reports, policy briefs, concept notes, background papers, and technical materials.
- Help develop, edit, and review publications, manuscripts, and other knowledge products.
- Assist in organizing workshops, seminars, and stakeholder meetings.
- Create meeting briefs, minutes, presentations, and official correspondences.
- Contribute to grant proposals, project updates, and institutional publications.
- Carry out other research and administrative tasks assigned by the Director.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- At least three years of relevant experience, including National Service, in research, editorial work, publishing, communications, or related areas.
- Proven skills in research writing and document preparation.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and communication expertise.
- Strong familiarity with academic and professional writing standards.
- Effective organizational and project coordination capabilities.
- High accuracy and keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of reference management software and research databases is a plus.
- Capability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork aptitude in multidisciplinary environments.
- High ethical conduct, professionalism, and confidentiality maintenance.
- Personal interest in African history, culture, education, science, technology, and innovation.
