Research Assistant - Psychology

About the Opportunity

The College of Liberal Arts at Temple University is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant for their Psychology Department. This position provides a unique chance to support cutting-edge research focusing on identifying biomarkers and predictors related to clinical and behavioral outcomes in populations at risk for psychosis. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team under the guidance of Dr. Ellman and the broader lab staff, working collaboratively across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the entire data collection process at various study phases – including conducting semi-structured clinical interviews and cognitive assessments with participants.
• Support the collection of biosamples such as EEG and MRI data, as well as blood samples (processing and storage; all blood draws handled by trained phlebotomists).
• Provide assistance with an active clinical trial, ensuring accurate record keeping and compliance with protocols.
• Participate in daily laboratory functions, including participant recruitment, data management, and supervision of undergraduate student volunteers.
• Perform tasks as assigned by senior staff for smooth lab operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Minimum of six months’ relevant work experience in a psychology research setting.
• Previous work or volunteer involvement with individuals experiencing mental health disorders or other vulnerable groups is essential.
• Experience managing research data is required.
• Familiarity with MRI, EEG, or psychophysiological assessments, and experience with clinical populations (especially clinical interviewing), is highly preferred.

Required Skills

• Strong organizational skills and excellent interpersonal communication.
• Proficiency in at least one analytical or survey platform such as SAS, SPSS, R, Qualtrics, Redcap, Python, or STATA.
• Willingness and ability to work occasional nights and/or weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly wage range: $15.38 – $19.24, determined by role responsibilities, candidate background, department, and funding availability.
